The PITT’s KIDS program provides instruction in aquatics and games and sports instruction to children ages 3 years – 13 years old. As a developmental program Pitt’s Kids is comprised of two parts: Games and Sports Instruction in the gym and Aquatic Instruction in the pool. All children involved participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities with a focus on progressive skill instruction. The program uses all areas of Trees Hall including the Rock Wall, and the Olympic size swimming pool. We also use the small pool in the back of the Olympic pool, which is heated to 82 Degrees.
How does it all work?
In the fall and spring, the program is on Saturday Mornings from 9:30am – Noon for ten Saturdays. The summer camps are held during the week Monday – Thursday, with a morning and afternoon portion. The summer camp also has a lunch program for kids over the age of 6 years.
In each program, participants will receive 50 minutes of instruction in the gym and 50 minutes of instruction in the pool except for 3-4 year olds. The 3-4 year olds will receive 30 minutes of instruction in the dance studio, multi-purpose room, and pool. Each weekend and or day in the summer is geared towards lead up activities and themes. Activities include rock climbing, racket sports, striking activities, field games, martial arts, dance, and much more.
One of the focuses of the program is to develop a holistic approach towards physical activity. This allows instructors to develop life-long motor development skills for each age level. This allows participants to take away a skill that they learn and bring that with them in life.
